This is My New Boyfriend.

How cute a couple are we? His name is Mr. Tim. We both like karaoke and glitter. We both like cocktails and boys. He's simply dreamy... And when he sings? Heaven.
Don't be jealous. Someday, you will find your own Mr. Tim....

Wearing flip flops to a horse show could end badly.

The Legend.

Enough With The Rain, Already!!!

It feels like it has been rainy and gloomy here almost everyday since I returned from the Puerto Rico.... which feels like 100 years ago! YUCK!! There is something so depressing about waking up to darkness. Sure, I am oft waking up to darkness inside (Ba Dum Bump! Depression jokes- always go down a storm) but I hate turning lights on at 9AM. Lame!
I don't even like to be up at 9AM, really....
And as I got out of the shower this dark and gloomy Thursday, I realized I had forgotten to share one of the most exciting parts of our Puerto Rico trip!!! Love in a cabana with Jose? Me almost jumping off our balcony to save Anne from being Natalie Holloway'd at 7AM? Elizabeth fighting for a computer in the Business Center?? NO!
I found a LIVE sand dollar!!!
I don't know how it never occurred to me that they were alive once. Last year, on the Oregon Coast, my Dad explained that sand dollars are basically sucked dry by starfish and the like and then left to dry out and bleach on the shore. How did I not know that?? I LOVE aquariums!! I love sea shells!! I love weird Jesus/doves of peace poems that sand dollars represent! (OK, that last one is a lie.) But there was Diamond Don with some new nautical information for me!

Fast forward to Puerto Rico- Anne & I are swimming in the ocean at the Intercontinental (the place where I was called "Mister" by a 3 year old) and it is just glorious. Sun. Gentle ocean. Sure, we didn't have towels as we weren't guests of the Intercontinental- but it was so pretty and lush we didn't care. And as we soaked it in, I was feeling about in the sand with my toesies for sea shells- the only thing lacking from our trip thus far... and I found something that felt funny so promptly dove down to bring it up and it was a LIVE SAND DOLLAR!!!! It looked like this

Now I didn't take a pic of my own because I couldn't bear to bring the little guy ashore as his cilia and tiny sucker mouth were feeling creepy enough in the water. And I figured- soon enough, some star fish would suck him dry and he would wash up on the Oregon Coast for Eli to gather up (spoiler alert- gratuitous Eli pics coming up)

(Seriously- how cute is my nephew?? Denn & Eli licking Beaters '09)

And then he would live in his new home- unbroken and dove poem free- in MY bathroom!!

Now get out your Ark building supplies, people! It's raining AGAIN!

Big Winner at Mohegan Sun?

(So, no big win but big fun and good shopping on the return trip!)

I Love A Boozy Monday!!

So, the day started with a hard, crappy, not fun phone call that HAD to be made... but THEN- Chris came over and we had brunch and booze on the patio. Then Jason arrived and we had booze and well, booze. Off he went to play with the boys and here I am... in love with several new things!! 1) Boozy Mondays 2) MY boys 3) finally ripping off a bad band aid and also...
4) sweet tea vodka (direct from LA via Jason's suitcase)

5) Nurse Jackie (WATCH IT!)

And finally, as I was headed to JFK to pick up Jason from his Virgin America flight... (which requires me to wait in the Virgin arrivals lounge- not hard at all, for the record. My favorite lounge, actually. Doesn't bring up a thing, really.)... a rainbow shone out over the airport. And in my head, Jason arrived on that- an image that had me laughing out loud! If you squint, I swear you can almost see Jason...

Have I mentioned lately...

...how ridiculously cute and fun Abby & William are??

My Favorite Cookie...

...is a chocolate chip meringue. I prefer them made by my Mom but if I can't have those... Trader Joe makes a fine one. And thank God they are low fat because I ate an ENTIRE CONTAINER!! Not in one sitting, of course... but in a day. I'm not proud of this behavior... But I am full!

And I had a lovely cocktail to go with it! Because if you are going to have cookies for dinner, why not have a Rasberry Mojito chaser?! Especially if it's made with fresh mint from the Patio!

Now- add a side of Harper's Island and that spells a perfect Saturday night at the BFG Apartment!

THE Moment.

So, on Friday- we decide to wander into Old San Juan. the doormen at our hotel lets us know that due to "congestion", cabs won't be heading all the way into Old Town and advises us to take the bus! OK! We like buses. We take pictures at the bus stop. We enjoy the design of the seats. We sit. And we sit. And we sit. Until two chicks let us know that due to "the protest", there are no buses. They have sneakers on and will be walking. Umm, OK?! We start walking (as the chicks have said 30 minutes) but jump in a cab who takes us as far as he can due to the
"congestion created by the protest".

Long story short- we ride a bit and then we walk. And we walk. And we walk. We avoid the "protest"- which I was calling a parade as that made it seem more fun. That being said- there were tunes and food and flags and bright shirts so it was kinda fun. Shame about the government cutting 40% of public jobs to privatize and save some dinero but boy, Puerto Ricans are a colorful bunch!

Did I mention the walking? It was hot. We did not have water. We had Elizabeth and she had had enough! So, we popped into a bank (I needed to break some dirty Nannyland hundreds) to bask in the AC. Near the counter where the banking is done, there is a plaque with a poem on it called Let Me Think of Life. I am so moved by it, that I stand dumbstruck for a moment trying to figure out if a teller wrote it for a contest or a real poet wrote it. Turns out, it is a famous poem. I learn this after a terribly concerned employee asks if I need help... not sure why she assumed that what with me being sweaty and red faced and teary eyed. Esta bien, gracias.

And now, I have a new mission for the day... find out who wrote the poem. (Which, in theory, is something that would be delivered to me with a cold Medalla Light) And thankfully, due to my need to go into every cute looking crafty type shop- mission accomplished. Lady Lee Andrews. She is a big deal in the poetry world, apparently, and runs a shop in OSJ called The Poet's Passage for the benefit of local poets and artists. It was in that shop, after rereading and still enjoying the poem that brought me there, that I had THE moment.

I saw another poem and as I read, I felt... everything. That was THE moment. The reason I went. The moment that words heal- that they let you know you can feel without having to solve. I cried. Anne got goosebumps. Elizabeth just needed water, bless her.

I promptly bought the poem and hope you like it, too....
Esta bien, gracias.

Top PR Moments....

Our Ocean View....

My first frosty beach beverage...

Whilst A&E debate fried plantains or fried plantains- I kept busy!

When we visited the "rain forest" (ok, ok... It was at the Intercontinental)

Anne flips for PR!

Welcome Back, Welcome Back, Welcome Back

Oh, the patio looks pretty...
tomatoes growing, basil smelling lush and my bird is chirping away about my return!
"I missed you, bread giver. I missed you so... "

"And I show you just how much with a little sacrifice."

Coqui! Coqui!

Ahh, Puerto Rico. Hear the sounds of the coqui frog. And if you listen real goods- the ocean.

BTW... it is the coqui male that sings this tune- all night long apparently. He is the Lionel Richie of the frog kingdom. He is also about the size of a dime. The male also guards the eggs and then hangs for a few days post-hatch to keep an eye out. That's a good man. The babies- which must be the size of pinheads- skip the tadpole stage and hatch directly from the eggs as tiny but fully functional froglets! Muy cool.

Now, an old man making this sound on a jam packed airplane to entertain his three toddler relations that someone thought should sit together sans-adult in the row behind me is NOT muy cool. He is an a-hole. But proud of his ko kee sound making skills. Again... coqui? Cool. A-hole? Not cool.
